In the past, South by Southwest Interactive (SXSW) has been a place where startups launch and make a big splash. In 2007 and 2008, Twitter was the buzz. The last two years, both Gowalla and Foursquare grabbed people's real-time check-in attention. This year at SXSW, the hottest trend was group texting and chat. Throw in some location based services and you've got some unique experiences while on the go.
From our perspective, the following startups were the talk of SXSW: Fast Society, GroupMe, Groupflier, Hashable, Hurricane Party, Instagram, LiveShare by Cooliris, Localmind, Sifteo, Storify, Uber, Yobongo, Zaarly. The list is a lot longer than past years, but we think it is because there are a number of companies riffing off the base that Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Gowalla all set forth.
